The Why to the What:
At a certain point in college, I began to look back on my environment(s) growing up; from the time I spent with my father while he worked in Dallas Austin's Rowdy Record Studio, to the years spent answering calls and opening doors for Ceelo Green and other Radiculture Records/Alien Music employees.
Even in high school, Jordan Carter and I would ditch cops, gut and dip cigarillos, and drive to Ethereal's apt. so that he could record a verse -- the point being:

Like it or not, The XXL Freshman Cover marks the new voices who we will hear on the radio, see on T.V., and be obligated to learn about through rap/pop-culture exposure for the foreseeable future.
So I thought, "Why not start with that?" And I did.
What started with an intent to enjoy three songs per artist, per release; quickly turned into a fandom for the alternative direction the majority of these new up-and-coming rappers are taking, as well as the spectrum of music that will be indoctrinated into the hip-hop and rap scene because of them.
I admire these artists as the diligent, hard working people they had to be in order to put themselves where they now stand. Shining in the public eye.
